Current Competition: VEX Online Challenges 2021

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have been faced with the challenge of competing online. We meet over Zoom and participate in various coding & robotics challenges. Since we are unable to meet as a team, in-person, we have participated in the VEX 2021 Online Challenges, spotlighted below.

VEX Robotics Competition "Make It Real" CAD Engineering Challenge Sponsored by Autodesk
Our challenge was to create a piece that would solve a problem when building robots using CAD software. We used both Fusion360 and TinkerCAD to design a port protector. When wires get jostled around, motor ports are often damaged and need to be replaced. This is a waste of time, money, and resources, so we designed a cover for the motor that holds the wire in place, displacing the force on to the wire, whose flexibility absorbs it.

For the Ti Challenge, I was asked to deconstruct a piece of electronic equipment. I chose to take apart an Apple iBook G3, otherwise nicknamed the clamshell. Over the course of 3 days, I disassembled the computer down to the casing, including, the LCD, battery, Modem, SO-DIMM Memory, and CD Drive. It was difficult considering that much of the inside of the computer was eroded due to extensive prior use. At times, it was difficult to maintain motivation, when the process could be so troublesome. But, nevertheless, it was all worth it to the sped-up process of dismantling the computer.
VRC Girl Powered Essay Challenge Sponsored by The REC Foundation

The Girl Powered Essay challenge was all about how each team incorporated the Girl Powered Initiative into their program. In our essay, we talked about the inclusive environment that we create and described our perspective of an all-girls team. Emily and Hana worked together to write it and enjoyed sharing about our team experiences!
